Backlash in the US over Ben & Jerry's decision to ban the sale of its products in Judea and Samaria is growing, and the residents of Hempstead, New York are willing to put their money where their mouth is, literally.

Home to over 760,000 residents, the Nassau County locality has announced a consumer boycott against the ice cream maker and its parent company, Unilever.

According to ABC7NY, Hempstead officials have pledged to remove every single Ben & Jerry's or Unilever product from every shelf in town, from Lipton tea to Hellman's mayonnaise and, of course, every drop of Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin told the ABC affiliate that "We're going to go through every department and every contract will be reviewed and we are going to hold them accountable for their support of this anti-Israeli action."

The outlet further quoted Nassau County Executive Laura Curran as saying she is "disappointed by Ben & Jerry's decision to align itself with the anti-Israel BDS movement, which unfairly and dangerously singles out the world's only Jewish State.

"I strongly oppose the BDS movement and have worked hard to strengthen the relationship between Israel and Nassau during my time as County Executive. As a County Legislator, I voted to prohibit the County from doing business with companies or individuals involved in the discriminatory BDS movement. This has been my long-standing position."

The town said it would not order anything from Unilever until this issue is resolved – a measure it can employ under a 2016 law seeking to fight the BDS movement.

Hempstead was the first township in the region to adopt anti-BDS legislation and the law prohibits the town government from doing business with individuals or companies that openly boycott the United States, the Jewish state, and other US allies.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also called for a comsumer boycott of Ben & Jerry's over the matter.
