A man in his 20s died early Tuesday morning after falling out of a hot air balloon and landing on Highway 60 near Moshav Balfouria in northern Israel, south of Nazareth, the Israel Police reported.

The man was a member of the balloon's operating crew and for reasons that were still unclear appears to have been hanging onto the balloon itself, rather than remaining in the basket, during takeoff. He plunged approximately 100 meters (330 feet) to his death.
The highway was blocked off in both directions and police personnel scrambled to the site were investigating the incident.
