In a post to Twitter on Dec. 31, Blinken, who has Jewish roots, tweeted: "Music brings people together – it transcends borders and everything else that might otherwise divide us. As we close 2021, I'm sharing some of my favorite songs released this year (or recently), by artists around the world. Hope you enjoy as much as I have."

According to Channel 12, Peles responded to the news saying: "I opened my eyes this morning to the joyous and pretty amazing from [Channel 12 reporter] Gil Mishali, and I can only welcome the connection and closeness without borders that music affords us, and even more so now in a world of quarantines and traffic-light [programs for ranking local authorities by coronavirus infection rates]. I wish for different days for all of us in the year that is coming for our good. Amen."

Among the 36 songs that appear on Blinken's Spotify playlist were popular tracks from The Weeknd, Adele, and Dua Lipa.
