Police said that on Sunday night, two individuals pushed the 26-year-old Jewish man to the ground and beat him with sticks before fleeing the scene by car. NYPD officers from the 90th precinct and members of the Jewish patrol group Shomrim arrived at the scene along with Hatzalah, who treated the victim for wounds to his head.

The attack is being investigated by NYPD's Hate Crimes Unit. Brooklyn district attorney Eric Gonzalez condemned the "despicable act of violence" and Brooklyn borough president Antonio Reynoso said, "This isn't the way we do things in Brooklyn. Here we celebrate and love each other. I hope we find those who committed this horrible attack so that we could bring them to justice."
The United Jewish Organization of Williamsburg said on Twitter that it was "shocked and saddened by yet another unprovoked attack in Williamsburg."
The group added, "We hope for quick arrest, and we appeal for beefed-up patrols to eradicate this trend of violence against community members."
