Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Tuesday that excise tax on fuel will be cut, effectively slashing gasoline and diesel by NIS 0.50. Prices had gone up twice in March, reaching an eight-year high.

Liberman said that the cut will be implemented immediately and be in effect for the next three months after which matters will be re-evaluated in light of developments in the Israeli and global economies.
