Cult leader Daniel Ambash, who was serving a 26-year prison sentence for charges including rape and kidnapping, was found dead in his cell in Ayalon Prison on Friday.

Ambash was due for a parole hearing next week after he asked to be released on medical grounds.
The Israel Prison Service reported that an ambulance was scrambled to the prison, and paramedics attempted to resuscitate Ambash but were forced to declare him dead.
Ambash, a father to at least 14 children, began serving his sentence for rape, kidnapping, and other sexual crimes against women and children in his cult in July 2011.
