President Joe Biden told Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Wednesday the United States will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon as Tehran seeks stronger guarantees from Washington for the revival of a nuclear deal with world powers.

"The president underscored US commitment to never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon," the White House said in a statement.

It also added that Biden emphasized the importance of concluding maritime border negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.

I just had a long conversation with my friend, @POTUS. I thanked him for his deep commitment to Israel's security.

We discussed the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program and terrorist activity.

Lapid's office said the two "spoke at length about the negotiations on a nuclear agreement and their shared commitment to stopping Iran's progress towards a nuclear weapon."

Israel opposes a return to the 2015 pact, saying that Iran will use the funds that will be available after the sanctions are lifted for terror activities and its aspirations for regional hegemony, putting the Middle East, and Israel, in particular, at risk. Israeli officials have consistently reiterated that even if renewed, Israel is not bound by the nuclear deal and reserved freedom of actin to protect its security.
