In new documentation released Friday), an IDF spokesperson reported that fighters from the 188th Brigade, a unit specializing in counterterrorism operations, clashed with terrorists in battles in the Shuja'iya neighborhood in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

As part of the combat team's operations in the terrorist stronghold of Shuja'iya, forces from the Counterterrorism Unit (LOTAR) and fighters from the 74th Battalion encountered terrorists from the Hamas group in a school compound in the heart of the neighborhood. The terrorists attempted to lure the forces into an ambush with gunfire and explosives but were neutralized by LOTAR fighters and tank fire from the 74th Battalion.
Additionally, the fighters conducted sweeps in the school area and discovered an entrance to a tunnel in one of the classrooms, the tunnel leading to a mosque in the neighborhood.
The special forces unit of the LOTAR entered combat in Gaza for the first time as part of the brigade's combat missions. In addition to specialized forces in breaching, the unit operated alongside elite troops from the beginning of ground operations.
