Shir Siegel, daughter of Keith Siegel, who was abducted to Gaza 484 days ago, has asked people to prepare her father's favorite pancake recipe ahead of his return home.

"Making my dad's pancakes in honor of his homecoming," Shir wrote on Instagram, urging followers: "Go buy the ingredients." She added, "Take a screenshot and get your stomachs ready."

This past Passover, Hamas released a proof-of-life video featuring Keith Siegel and fellow hostage Omri Miran. In the footage, whose recording date is unclear, Siegel says: "I want to tell my family how much I love you. I have beautiful memories of last year's Passover, when we all celebrated together. It's very important to me that you know I am okay, and I really hope you are too."

Keith Siegel's favorite pancake recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (450 ml) buttermilk
  • ½ cup (90 ml) oil
  • 2 cups (80 g) flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda

Preparation:

  1. Mix the wet ingredients - buttermilk, oil, and eggs.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients - flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Gently fold the wet and dry mixtures together until just combined, then let the batter rest for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Lightly grease a hot pan with oil and pour in a full ladle of batter for thick pancakes. Cook for about 2 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook for a short time on the other side.
  5. Serve with real maple syrup on top.

Enjoy this special recipe as a tribute to Keith Siegel's long-awaited return.
