Hamas has accepted a proposed ceasefire framework known as the Witkoff plan, which includes a 70-day pause in fighting and the release of 10 hostages, according to a Palestinian source with knowledge of the organization, Reuters reported. The proposal was reportedly conveyed to Hamas via mediators.
Earlier, Egyptian media reported details of a possible deal between Israel and the terrorist organization. According to those reports, the ceasefire would last for at least 60 days, during which 10 living hostages would be freed. The release would take place in two phases: some would be released on the first day of the agreement, and the rest on the 60th day.
Egyptian media also reported that the remains of 16 hostages killed in captivity would be returned according to a timeline to be agreed upon, allowing Hamas time to locate them. Sources said that Hamas, for its part, demanded the release of "all detainees from the Gaza Strip," both those held before and after the October 7 massacre. The sources noted positive developments in the negotiations underway in Qatar, which could potentially lead to the signing of a hostage release deal.

A public handshake
As part of the proposal conveyed to Israel, Hamas is also demanding a symbolic public handshake between Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas official, and US envoy Steve Witkoff. The gesture is meant to serve as a guarantee of American commitment to prevent the resumption of hostilities following the proposed ceasefire agreement.
Israel Hayom also reported that the latest proposal, which arrived overnight Sunday to Monday from the mediators, did not originate with the Americans, though it was passed through them. Israel Hayom has learned that the US is preparing to submit its own proposal later this week. In the meantime, American officials are holding off on making any moves.
Earlier Monday, Israel rejected the proposal. A senior Israeli official familiar with the matter told Israel Hayom, "No responsible government in Israel would agree to adopt such a proposal. It does not reflect a genuine willingness by Hamas to move forward with a deal based on the Witkoff framework."
