Eamon Downes, professionally known as Ame and a founding member of the influential UK breakbeat hardcore group Liquid, has died. Fellow rave scene veteran Billy Daniel Bunter announced the loss on X on Monday, July 21, writing, "It's with heartbreaking sadness that I'm letting the world know we've lost Eamon Downes." Bunter highlighted Downes' roles as a devoted husband to Stella, a proud father to Bea, and a cherished friend, emphasizing the profound grief caused by his passing, as reported by Resident Advisor.

Downes co-founded Liquid in 1991 with Shane Heneghan, alias DJ Model, after connecting at Pauls 4 Music record shop in east London. Their debut Liquid EP, featuring the seminal tracks "Sweet Harmony" and "Liquid Is Liquid," became cornerstones of the rave movement, according to Resident Advisor. Re-released by XL Recordings, "Sweet Harmony" reached number 14 on the UK Singles charts.
Following Heneghan's exit after the first two releases, Downes carried Liquid forward as a solo endeavor for over 30 years. He produced a steady stream of singles in the 1990s and the 1995 album Culture, per Resident Advisor. After a hiatus, Downes returned to music in the late 2010s after moving to Italy, releasing new albums and seeing earlier works remixed by artists such as Ray Keith, Dope Ammo, and Danny Byrd, as noted by Resident Advisor.
