A 70-year-old woman from central Israel, affiliated with the anti-government protest movement, is suspected of conspiring with others to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu using an explosive device.
The woman, a resident of Tel Aviv, was arrested by the Shin Bet two weeks ago and interrogated by the Israel Police's National Unit for Serious and International Crime Investigations. She was released under restrictive conditions, including a ban on approaching government buildings or Netanyahu.
According to police, the woman expressed her intention to assassinate the prime minister and approached fellow protesters in an attempt to obtain weapons and gather information about Netanyahu's security arrangements.
The investigation has now concluded and the case has been transferred to the State Attorney's Office. An indictment is expected to be filed on Thursday.
The gag order on the details of the investigation was lifted at the request of the investigating unit. However, at the defense attorney's request, the court has barred publication of the woman's name and address.
