Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce proposed to global pop star Taylor Swift in a serene garden in Lee's Summit, Missouri, roughly two weeks ago, his father, Ed Kelce, told News 5 Cleveland. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram with a joint post captioned, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," featuring images from the romantic moment, as covered by The Hollywood Reporter.
Speaking with News 5 Cleveland on Tuesday, Ed Kelce shared that Travis had carefully planned the proposal for months. Initially, Travis considered postponing it for a larger event, but Swift may have been eager for the moment. "I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event," Ed Kelce said, as quoted by News 5 Cleveland. He encouraged Travis to prioritize the sentiment over the setting, noting a proposal could be special anywhere.

Before heading to dinner, Travis invited Swift for a glass of wine, guiding her to the garden where he proposed. "He got her out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful," Ed Kelce recounted, as reported by News 5 Cleveland. The couple quickly contacted family via FaceTime, including Ed and Swift's parents, to share their joy.
Ed Kelce was at a Philadelphia Eagles practice when Travis and Swift called to announce their engagement. He highlighted the significance of the August timing, a nod to Swift's fanbase, known as Swifties, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, who began dating in the summer of 2023, maintain a private relationship but publicly champion each other's careers. Swift frequently attends Chiefs games, while Kelce supports her Eras Tour performances, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter.
