In tense final moments ahead of a possible hostage and ceasefire deal in Gaza, US President Donald Trump said Wednesday evening that he might travel to the Middle East as early as Sunday for a potential signing ceremony between Israel and Hamas.
"The Secretary of State just handed me a note saying are close to a deal in the Middle East and they will need me soon," Trump said.

According to the Associated Press, the note US President Donald Trump received said: "We need you to approve a Truth Social post so can announce deal first."
"I just finished discussions with our teams in the Middle East – both ours and others – about the possibility of a peace agreement in the region. We're hopeful it will materialize. It's very close," he said.

He added: "We're engaging with Hamas and with many countries – all the Muslim and Arab states are included in the talks. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Our final negotiations, as you know, are with Hamas, and it appears to be moving forward well."
Even before Trump's remarks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters at the Capitol that there had been "good progress" in the ongoing talks in Egypt. He said he might travel to the region himself soon.
