According to a report by Las Vegas station KLAS and investigative journalist George Knapp, a military aircraft crashed on September 23 in public land near the perimeter of the classified Area 51 base in Nevada, one of the world's most secretive and closely watched locations. The crash occurred near Highway 375, known as the "Extraterrestrial Highway," a popular destination for UFO enthusiasts. Since then, new details have surfaced that, according to Knapp, indicate a large nighttime operation and a deliberate effort by authorities to conceal information.
Knapp said he spoke with Joerg Arnu, a longtime Nevada resident who has tracked the base's activity for years through his website Dreamland Resort. On the morning after the crash, Arnu heard a radio transmission stating, "All foot patrols, be advised, there is an armed unmanned aircraft." He said this might have referred either to a crashed drone or to another drone monitoring the site.

Later, security forces sealed off wide areas of Tikaboo Valley surrounding Area 51, set up armed roadblocks, and restricted access. A military helicopter carrying a cargo sling and portable toilets suggested, according to eyewitnesses, that operations at the site were ongoing. "Almost the entire valley was closed, they meant business," Arnu said.
Days later, when he tried to reach the area again, Arnu found a newly graded dirt road leading to what appeared to be an operational base. Nearby he spotted scorched trees and buried metal debris that, he claims, did not resemble parts of an ordinary drone.

The US Air Force later stated the wreckage belonged to an MQ-9 Reaper drone from Creech Air Force Base, adding that someone had scattered unrelated debris at the site, including a dummy bomb, to mislead investigators. The FBI is reportedly investigating the incident.
But Arnu rejected the military's version. "That's just an excuse to keep people away from the site. I think they buried parts they couldn't recover and spread misleading material," he said.
On Arnu's website, aviation enthusiasts and defense industry figures speculated that the downed aircraft might have been a next-generation drone powered by artificial intelligence and capable of operating autonomously alongside manned fighter jets.
For decades, the remote base known as Area 51 in northern Nevada has been associated with UFO and alien conspiracy theories, though it is, in reality, a testing ground for highly classified aircraft and weapons. The facility spans more than 4,500 square miles (11,650 square kilometers) and is surrounded by restricted airspace of 575 square miles (1,490 square kilometers), where any attempted incursion could prompt a severe warning, or gunfire.
