President Donald Trump expressed frustration with NATO member countries after the White House said he is considering "a range of options" to acquire Greenland, and over the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year for his contribution to NATO's survival.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, President Trump claimed he pushed NATO members to increase their defense spending from 2% to 5% of their GDP, requiring them to more than double their military budgets. "Remember, for all of those big NATO fans, they were at 2% GDP, and most weren't paying their bills, UNTIL I CAME ALONG," he wrote. "The USA was, foolishly, paying for them!" he added, while emphasizing that now member countries pay their commitments immediately.
"Without my involvement, Russia would have ALL OF UKRAINE right now. Remember, also, I single-handedly ENDED 8 WARS, and Norway, a NATO Member, foolishly chose not to give me the Noble Peace Prize," he continued. The snub reportedly influenced his decision not to support Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado's claim to office, choosing Maduro's vice president instead after the US captured narco-terrorist Nicholas Maduro.
The president then continued to stress that without the US' participation, NATO has limited value: "What does matter is that I saved Millions of Lives. RUSSIA AND CHINA HAVE ZERO FEAR OF NATO WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES, AND I DOUBT NATO WOULD BE THERE FOR US IF WE REALLY NEEDED THEM."
He concluded, "We will always be there for NATO, even if they won't be there for us. The only Nation that China and Russia fear and respect is the DJT REBUILT U.S.A. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
President Trump's remarks come after the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, warned the alliance could collapse if he attempted to take over Greenland.
