Against the backdrop of threats by US President Donald Trump, Israel's security establishment, with particular emphasis on the Israeli Air Force, has shifted to its highest state of readiness amid indications of a looming US strike on Iran.
Israel's air defense array has raised its alert level nationwide and is preparing for the possibility of a heavy Iranian barrage directed at Israel. At the same time, the Israeli Air Force is preparing potential retaliatory strikes should Iran make what Israeli officials describe as a grave mistake by launching long-range surface-to-surface missiles at Israel.
Israeli officials are hopeful that the Americans would give Israel enough lead time to fully activate and position all defensive systems. At the same time, they emphasize that a US strike on Iran would not necessarily trigger an Iranian attack on Israel.

The assessment in Israel is that if Iran were to draw Israel into a direct confrontation, it would have to take into account the likelihood of a significant Israeli response. Even so, no one in Israel is willing to take that risk. As a result, the IDF is maintaining the highest possible level of preparedness.
Meanwhile, IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin wrote on his X account that he would continue to provide updates, saying he was aware of the reports circulating over the past day and especially in recent hours, and sought to clarify that the Israel Defense Forces were closely monitoring developments.
"In recent days, the chief of staff has been holding ongoing situation assessments. We are maintaining full oversight and are prepared for any development. The chief of staff has instructed that readiness be bolstered," Defrin wrote.
He added a public appeal, urging Israelis to rely only on official IDF statements and to refrain from spreading rumors that could cause unnecessary public anxiety. "At this stage, there is no change in defensive policy. The IDF is prepared and will continue to act responsibly to safeguard the security of the citizens of the State of Israel. I will update if any changes are required," he said.
