Amid soaring global coffee prices, Starbucks has trimmed the coffee content in its branded pods – while retail prices have held steady. Several Starbucks pod packages now indicate that coffee quantities have dropped by 0.2 grams. pods that previously contained 5.7 grams now hold 5.5 grams of coffee.

Three varieties have undergone the reduction: Espresso Roast, Espresso Roast Decaf, and House Blend pods. Retail pricing remains 21.5 shekels for a 10-pod package. Other pod varieties have maintained their original quantities, which range from 5.1 to 5.7 grams depending on the blend.
Osem Nestlé stated in response, "This reflects a global optimization initiative in our roasting and grinding processes that has impacted pod weight while preserving the flavor profile and coffee experience. The modification is clearly communicated on product packaging." Nespresso, another brand under the global Nestlé umbrella, implemented a comparable strategy earlier.
As part of an international downsizing effort, Nespresso reduced coffee quantities across select pod packages, with reductions varying by blend and reaching up to 0.6 grams – while maintaining existing price points. The initiative launched in Israel during August 2024 and expanded to cover additional varieties last February.
