Israel's Home Front Command on Thursday morning issued an alert across several parts of the country following a magnitude 4.2 earthquake centered in the Dead Sea region.
The alert was activated at 9 a.m. in multiple areas, including communities around the Dead Sea and the southern Negev. No casualties or unusual damage were reported at this stage.
Among the locations where the alert was triggered in the Dead Sea area were Ein Bokek, the central Dead Sea hotel zone, Mitzpe Shalem, Neot Hakikar, Ein Tamar, Neve Zohar, the Dead Sea hotels area, Masada, the Ein Gedi spa complex and Ein Gedi.
In the southern Negev, the alert was activated in Arad, the Rotem industrial zone, Al-Fura'a and Kfar Hanokdim. Authorities said the alert was also sounded in additional parts of the country.
The Geological Survey of Israel confirmed that at 9 a.m. local time, magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the Dead Sea region and was felt across much of Israel.
The Home Front Command said that if an earthquake alert is received in one's area, the public should move to an open space. If it is not possible to reach an open area, residents were instructed to enter a protected space and leave the door open.
