Yarden Bibas shared a deeply personal and painful post on his Instagram account on Sunday to mark what would have been the third birthday of his son, Kfir, a birthday the child never lived to celebrate.

In the post, Bibas reflects on Kfir's short life, from being forced to evacuate their home just months after his birth, through his first tastes of solid food and the moment he began to crawl, to taking part in the celebration of his older brother's fourth birthday. "You didn't get to celebrate your first birthday," Bibas wrote. "So how can I mark your third?"

Bibas expressed deep remorse and anguish over the reality into which his son was born. "I'm sorry that I brought you into such a cruel world," he wrote, adding that he hopes Kfir knows how deeply he was loved and how terribly he is missed.

Toward the end of the post, Bibas said he believes Kfir is celebrating his birthday in heaven, together with his mother, Shiri, his brother, Ariel, and the family dog, Tony. "I'm sure Mom is giving you the best and happiest birthday possible, just as only she knows how," he wrote.

"I love you more than anything in the world, forever and always," Bibas concluded, signing off with orange heart emojis.
