Two patients were injured Tuesday evening at Laniado Hospital in Netanya after a fire broke out in an internal medicine ward. Hospital officials said the fire most likely started after a patient smoked in the hospital ward. The patient who had been smoking sustained moderate injuries. A second patient who was also present in the room sustained minor injuries. As of now, the cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed.
The hospital said the automatic fire suppression system had been activated in the ward. "Following an incident whose details are still unclear, a patient in one of the wards who was apparently smoking in the hospital room was injured in a fire that broke out. Another patient who was in the room was also injured."
The hospital added, "The fire was extinguished very quickly and no further patients are at risk. Thanks to the immediate actions of the hospital's emergency team and firefighters, there was no need to evacuate the ward."
