US President Donald Trump approved Israel's limited ground incursion into Lebanon, which began last week, Israel Hayom has learned.
Trump also agreed that the operation could be expanded significantly if necessary. The US had previously set January 1, 2026 as the final deadline for Hezbollah to disarm under the ceasefire agreement reached in late 2024.
Earlier this evening, Israel Hayom reported that Israeli officials are threatening to seize Lebanese territory in response to Hezbollah's extensive rocket fire toward northern Israel.
Earlier in the day, Trump spoke with reporters outside the White House and addressed the situation in Lebanon.
"We're working on it very hard. We love Lebanon, we love the Lebanese people," Trump said. "We have to get rid of Hezbollah. It has brought disaster for many years."
