Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would press ahead with Operation Guardian of the Walls as long as necessary on Wednesday.

The comments came just hours after he held a conversation with US President Joe Biden, during which the US leader told he expected a 'significant de-escalation' on Wednesday.

Speaking in a recorded message to the public, Netanyahu said that while he "greatly appreciates the support of the American president," he will push ahead "to return the calm and security to you, citizens of Israel."

Netanyahu added that he was "determined to continue this operation until its aim is met."

The White House was quit to belittle any daylight between the two countries. "Our focus has not changed," Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, said. "We are working towards a de-escalation."

She added that Biden continues to seek a "sustainable calm" and that the message Biden conveyed in the call was consistent with his previous statements. "This is what we have been calling for for the past eight days," she said.

Meanwhile, Germany's foreign ministry confirmed that the nation's top diplomat will make a one-day trip to Israel and the Palestinian Authority on Thursday for talks with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials.

The ministry said Wednesday that Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will meet the Israeli foreign and defense ministers, as well as President Reuven Rivlin.

He will also meet the Palestinian prime minister in Ramallah.
