The Higher Education Council officially recognized the Herzliya Interdisciplinary Center as a university on Tuesday.
Following this decision, the institution will be named "Reichmann University," named after Professor Uriel Reichmann, who founded it 27 years ago.
"The recognition of the Interdisciplinary Center as a university is an important step in the evolution of the Israeli higher education system," said Prof. Amnon Rubenstein, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IDC.
Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton asserted that the "IDC's recognition as a university marks the strengthening of Israeli higher education. IDC is an institution whose curriculum is innovative and creative, and with an international emphasis."
