India's Defense Ministry announced Friday the consensus mapped out by the India-Israel joint working group on defense cooperation, The Hindustan Times reported.
The plan, which will cover defense procurement, production, and research and development, was agreed upon during a visit to Israel by Ajay Kumar, the director-general of India's Defense Ministry.
According to reports, Kumar met with his Israeli counterpart, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Amir Eshel, in Tel Aviv as part of the 15th meeting of the joint working group.
"The two sides reviewed the progress made in military-to-military engagements including exercises and industry cooperation," India's Defense Ministry stated.
The officials further agreed on the implementation of sub-working groups, which will cover efficient resource utilization, effective flow of technologies, and sharing industrial capabilities, The Hindustan Times reported.
Security challenges in the Middle East and Indo-Pacific regions were discussed as well.
Israel has supplied India with various weapons systems, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles, totaling over $1 billion a year, according to reports in Israeli media.
During 2016-2020, Israel accounted for 13% of India's imports and has been among India's top three arms suppliers for the last five years.
Recently, India participated in the Blue Flag international air drill, sending a Mirage fighter squadron to Israel for the first time, The Post reported.
