GOP adviser: Trump's missteps highlight Kushner's absence

"The meeting with Fuentes and Ye served as an excuse for senior Republicans who want to distance themselves from Trump, but it also shows just how important it is to have advisers such as Kushner to protect Trump from such mistakes," the adviser said.

Former President Donald Trump's controversial dinner with rapper Ye, despite his past antisemitic statements, along with Nick Fuentes, a known Holocaust denier, could have been avoided had his son-in-law Jared Kusher was still advising him, a GOP adviser said.

Speaking with Israel Hayom, the adviser said that Kushner will not be constantly at his father-in-law's side as he makes another presidential run, unlike his 2020 bid.

Kushner, who is spending time in Qatar with his family against the backdrop of the World Cup, was invaluable to Trump in his victory six years ago. But when Trump made his announcement speech on Nov. 15, Kushner was nowhere to be seen. Ivanka Trump, who is Kushner's wife and Trump's daughter, has also indicated she will not take an active role in the campaign because she wants to spend more time with her family.

"The meeting with Fuentes and Ye served as an excuse for senior Republicans who want to distance themselves from Trump, but it also shows just how important it is to have advisers such as Kushner to protect Trump from such mistakes," the adviser said. "Trump is now left without anyone to push the brakes and prevent him from such missteps. This situation, along with the fact that many in the GOP want to move on from Trump, means that Trump's power is all but gone." The adviser also believes that "Trump has launched his presidential bid too early. Usually, those who lead in the beginning ultimately win, but there are two years until the election, which is too long. That could have an adverse effect on his chances."
