Israelis injured as massive rocket attack launched toward northern communities

Residents in northern Israel heard sirens repeatedly wailing as the attack continued. The escalation comes on the heels of ongoing tensions with Palestinian rioters in Jerusalem who have tried to undermine security on Temple Mount by sleeping inside Al-Aqsa Mosque and throwing rocks and fireworks on security forces.

Multiple rocket salvos were fired toward communities in northern Israel on Thursday, resulting in two civilians who sustained minor injuries.

One man was hit with shrapnel in the Western Galilee while another woman was injured while running for shelter.

The first attack came in the form of one rocket that was successfully intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, with the remaining rockets fired shortly afterward. It is unclear how many rockets were fired in the second cluster, although it is believed to be the first time since the Second Lebanon War in 2006 that such a large quantity is detected.

Residents in northern Israel heard sirens repeatedly wailing as the attack continued. The escalation comes on the heels of ongoing tensions with Palestinian rioters in Jerusalem who have tried to undermine security on Temple Mount by sleeping inside Al-Aqsa Mosque and throwing rocks and fireworks at security forces. Israeli efforts to arrest the provocateurs has had Hamas launch rockets this week multiple times from the Gaza Strip. It is unclear who is behind the latest attacks from Lebanon.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu updated on the security situation. "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is regularly updated on the security events and will conduct a situation assessment with the heads of the security establishment," his office said. Arab media reported that Israel fired back with artillery shells.

There was no immediate comment from the Lebanese army or from the Shiite terrorist group that controls the southern part of the Arab country.
