An Israeli drone carried out an attack on a vehicle near a Syrian army checkpoint in the vicinity of Damascus, Arab media reported Tuesday.
Saudi networks Al-Hadath and Al-Arabiya, citing unnamed sources, identified the target as Abu al-Fadl Qarnabesh, a high-ranking Hezbollah member. Qarnabesh reportedly served as a former bodyguard to Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary-general of Hezbollah, and played a significant role in the organization's weapons smuggling unit operating between Syria and Lebanon.
The targeted vehicle was said to have been traveling from Beirut, Lebanon. Reports indicate that two Hezbollah operatives were killed in the strike. The attack took place on one of the known Iranian weapons smuggling routes used to supply Hezbollah.
In a separate incident, an Israeli strike was reported in the early hours of the morning in the Baniyas area of northern Syria. The attack allegedly targeted an Iranian air defense system. Syrian sources did not report any damage resulting from this strike.
