Iron Swords to diamond ring: Wounded Lebanon veteran's touching marriage proposal

The soldier had bought an engagement ring before he was wounded in southern Lebanon.

Lev Podvitsky and his girlfriend Stav's love story began five and a half years ago at an IDF base in the Golan Heights. He had already chosen the perfect ring to propose before fate intervened with his injury in southern Lebanon. This week, their journey came full circle in a touching moment at Sheba Medical Center's rehabilitation wing.

Lev, a fourth-year civil engineering student at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, shares his life with Stav, who studies computer engineering. His life took an unexpected turn in early November when he was wounded during reserve duty, leading to four surgeries at Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

His path to recovery brought him to Sheba's "Returning to Life" rehabilitation center, where the staff helped create a special moment. They laid out a red carpet replicating the path Lev had once built between his and Stav's offices at their military base. In the occupational therapy hall, Lev proposed and, in a touching moment, rose from his wheelchair to embrace his new fiancée.
