Netanyahu set to advance partial sovereignty plan in Jordan Valley

Israel Hayom has learned that contrary to the hopes of several ministers, the plan being advanced by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer calls for only partial sovereignty in Judea and Samaria. The initiative is built on broad consensus within Israel and, in Dermer's view, could also gain bipartisan support in the US.

Ministers in the Diplomatic-Security Cabinet will receive a briefing Sunday evening on upcoming war plans in Gaza. The meeting is not expected to address a deal for the release of the hostages, as no progress has been made on that front. However, the ministers will be asked to share their views on possible response measures against the Palestinian Authority, chief among them the application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.

Ahead of the meeting, Israel Hayom has learned that contrary to the hopes of several government ministers, the plan being advanced by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer in discussions with senior US officials envisions only partial sovereignty, limited to the Jordan Valley.

This plan is based on a broad consensus within Israel and, according to Dermer's expectations, bipartisan support in the US. It contrasts with the more sweeping approach of applying full sovereignty over most of Judea and Samaria.

A senior government official familiar with Dermer's initiative told Israel Hayom that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pursuing only partial sovereignty, a move that will likely draw criticism from Europe "as if he had applied sovereignty over the entire territory, even though he could secure full recognition from Trump.
