The confrontation between Israel and Turkey in Syria escalated further on Tuesday, when Israel struck and destroyed air defense systems that Ankara had supplied to the new regime in Damascus. In Turkey, some voices are already fantasizing about a full-scale clash with Israel.

The news site GZT published a two-part series, mapping out what it described as Israel's "soft underbelly" in a detailed list of potential targets. The reports included slickly produced videos showing the targets alongside aerial maps of Israel.

The first part focused on strategic sites inside Israel. It highlighted the Air Force bases at Nevatim, Hatzerim and Ramat David, the IDF headquarters at the Kirya in Tel Aviv, and the Iron Dome missile defense system. The video then moved on to purely civilian infrastructure, including the ports of Ashdod, Haifa and Eilat, as well as the Leviathan and Tamar offshore natural gas rigs. The report concluded with the nuclear research center in Dimona.

In the second part, the reporter labeled a series of military bases across Israel as the country's "Achilles' heel," along with supposed defense industry production sites. Oddly, he referred to bases that may be dug deep into bedrock as "soft targets," adding simple animated explosions alongside them.

"This is a very popular digital news site in Turkey that has been active since 2016. It has 2.6 million Instagram followers, is fully aligned with the government line in Ankara, and is close to President Erdogan," explained Dr. Assa Ophir, a Turkey expert in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies and Political Science at Ariel University. "The site has substantial resources because it is owned by the Albayrak conglomerate, which operates across multiple sectors of the Turkish economy, including a very powerful media group."

Asked about how the reports are perceived in Turkey, Ophir said: "To me, this mainly reflects frustration and their inability to stop or counter Israel's actions."
