Coincidence? Beach-side 'Nova' restaurant to open in Gaza

The "Nova Cafe" in Khan Younis, Gaza

A restaurant currently under construction in the Khan Younis area in Gaza is preparing to open with the shocking name "Nova Cafe," which references the music festival where Hamas carried out one of its mass murder attacks during the October 7, 2023, assault. Hundreds of Israelis were killed in the attack by the terror organization's operatives, and dozens were taken hostage. The festival, held just a few kilometers from the border near Khan Younis, became one of the symbols of October 7.

Palestinians on social media responded with a mixture of confusion and celebration. A Hamas supporter wrote, "May Allah bless its owner with success and provide for him with dignity," adding, "I hope his prices are reasonable and suitable for everyone." Others noted cynically, "Whoever suggested this name for the restaurant is a butcher." Some required an explanation about the name "Nova" and its connection to the festival where the massacre occurred.

The restaurant's launch on social media also drew responses worldwide. "Oh look! A new, gorgeous restaurant opening soon in Gaza named Nova Cafe. Disgusting. I wonder how they got that completed during the genocide," Jewish entrepreneur and social media persona Aliza Licht said. "Sickening and expected," a user commented, as others tagged famous anti-Israel Hollywood celebrities in the comment section, such as Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg, and Angelina Jolie.

The restaurant complex is being built on al-Rasheed Street along the seafront, directly on the beach, and is currently completing final work on the structure. The complex features several dining rooms with numerous seating areas that face the sea view.
