The BBC has settled with an Israeli family that survived the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, after a news crew from the network entered their heavily damaged home without authorization and filmed inside the residence in the days following the massacre.
A BBC team, which included International Editor Jeremy Bowen, entered the family's home in the community of Netiv HaAsara on the Gaza Strip border and filmed inside the property, including personal photographs of the family's children, while their relatives and friends still did not know whether they had survived the attack.

Tsila Hornstein, the family's mother, recounted that during the Hamas attack, a grenade was thrown at her husband Simon, and that family members survived only because the front door warped and jammed when the terrorists attempted to break in using explosives.
According to her, "Not only did terrorists break into our home and try to murder us, but then a BBC crew came in – this time with a camera as a weapon – without permission and without consent. It was another invasion of our lives."
A BBC spokesperson stated that the corporation does not comment on legal details but confirmed that an agreement had been reached between the parties. According to the report, the BBC paid the family approximately 28,000 pounds sterling in compensation.
