Iran ramps up threats, claim expanded missile stockpile

As the US withdraws nonessential personnel from its base in Qatar, Iran has warned the governments of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Turkey that their territory could be targeted if Washington takes action against Tehran. "We are at peak readiness," Iran's military commander said.

Majid Mousavi, commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force, said on Wednesday that Iran's missile stockpile has grown since last year's 12-day war with Israel, according to state media.

"We are at the highest level of readiness," Mousavi was quoted as saying, adding that damage from the war had been repaired and that output in various units of the IRGC's aerospace forces was higher than before June 2025.

The remarks came alongside indications of US preparations for potential Iranian action. Media reports said the US military had evacuated nonessential troops from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US base in the Middle East, which Iran attacked after the US strike on Iranian nuclear facilities in June.

In addition, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran had warned neighboring countries hosting US forces that it would retaliate against American bases if Washington followed through on threats to intervene in protests inside Iran. According to the report, Iran warned Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Turkey and urged them to pressure Washington not to act against the regime in Tehran.

Earlier, a senior Iranian regime official told Reuters that direct communication between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US special envoy Steve Witkoff had been suspended following President Donald Trump's threats to intervene amid nationwide protests in Iran.

The official added that US threats were undermining diplomatic efforts and that potential meetings between the two officials aimed at finding a diplomatic solution to the decades-long nuclear dispute had been canceled.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that Moscow must continue working with Iran to implement their bilateral agreements and that no other country could change the nature of relations between Russia and Iran. Lavrov made the remarks at a press conference in Moscow.
