In the letter, which Schifrin published, Trump wrote that "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America."
Trump also addressed Greenland, writing that "Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a "right of ownership" anyway? There are no written documents, it's only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also."
The president added that "I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland."

According to the report, the letter was distributed by the White House National Security Council staff to several European ambassadors in Washington.
The letter was sent two days after Trump announced 10 percent tariffs on eight European countries that sent forces to a joint exercise in Greenland: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK. The tariffs are set to take effect on February 1 and rise to 25 percent on June 1. Trump said they would remain in place "until a full and complete deal is reached for the purchase of Greenland."
The eight countries issued a joint statement on Sunday expressing "full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland," warning that "the tariff threats undermine relations between the two sides of the Atlantic and could lead to a dangerous negative spiral."
