The suspect, who has not been publicly named, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with religiously-motivated death threats and drug offenses. Prosecutors believe the kidnapping charge is warranted, though the rape allegation is still under investigation.

It is unclear what will become of those who converted in those courts since the State of Israel effectively recognized their conversions before suspicions were raised that they were potentially acting without proper vetting. The affair was exposed following monitoring by the ITIM organization, which filed a petition to the High Court on the matter.

According to the Zurich police department, a 15-year-old suspect is responsible for the stabbing of the 50-year-old victim who is in critical condition.
