The Times reported that cabinet minister David Lammy confirmed in a letter that the UK government does not consider Israel’s military actions in Gaza to amount to genocide. Back in May, Hamish Falconer, minister for the Middle East, said “It is the UK government’s long-standing position that any formal determination as to whether genocide has occurred is a matter for a competent court, not for governments or non-judicial bodies,” The Times recalled.
The Israeli defense minister called on Hamas “to lay down its arms and release the hostages.” His remarks came a day after President Donald Trump presented the main points of a new American proposal for a deal that would cancel Israel’s planned campaign to seize Gaza and instead include negotiations to end the war.
IDF forces operating in northern Gaza destroyed a tunnel network hundreds of meters long, inside which they found a Hamas operations room. Nahal Brigade units also killed terrorists hiding in a building above an operational shaft leading to the underground route.
Israeli hostages are believed to be alive in Gaza City amid the expanded IDF campaign, according to a Hamas video showing hostage Guy Gilboa-Dalal. However, the assessment is that Hamas will try not to endanger them, as they are considered “its strongest bargaining chip.”
Washington tells terrorist organization it will not stop Israel from advancing into Gaza City, while Hamas under Iranian pressure seeks to adopt the “Hezbollah model”, leaving behind a powerful armed group within a weakened civilian entity.
The footage shows Guy Gilboa-Dalal in a vehicle driving through Gaza City, saying he cannot believe he is still alive after 22 months of captivity.
