With the possible release of 20 living hostages from the Gaza Strip, the IDF are preparing for their arrival on a larger scale than in previous instances. Officer quarters at the Re’im military base are being converted into reception areas for the hostages.
Cautious optimism was felt in Jerusalem after Hamas's overseas spokesperson said efforts were being made to remove obstacles to a ceasefire deal, and that negotiations focused on ending the war in Gaza, the withdrawal of IDF troops, and a hostage deal.
Israel believes a deal could be within reach in the coming days, but senior officials remain concerned over hardline demands from Hamas. The terrorist organization insisted that any agreement must include the release of high-profile Palestinian terrorists and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip as part of the initial phase.
