Messianic birth pangs, deluxe edition

As Iran buckles under devastating blows, the Netanyahu-Trump alliance is driving a historic shift; despite the voices of despair, Israel is holding firm and prevailing on the way to cleansing Tehran of leaven and ridding the world of evil

History is knocking at our door. We need patience and nerves of steel, not to stop but to keep striking the enemy with full force. With each passing day, it is absorbing crushing blows it never imagined in its hubris, when it planned to encircle Israel together with its terrorist proxies. Every military base destroyed, every missile launcher eliminated, every symbol of government that crumbles, every senior official taken out brings the end of this evil regime closer. We are on the eve of Passover, and we are teaching the world a lesson in the laws of removing leaven.

Europe is tired of fighting for its life, but the great US and the small Jewish state are working to cleanse the world of the evil that spread through it after the Islamic Revolution hijacked ancient Persian civilization. The ayatollahs' regime is falling apart rapidly, and the lying propaganda it spreads, pretending it is holding on, testifies to its weakness. Do not believe it. The boastful statements of its dwindling senior officials are empty. Between a regime's survival and its collapse there is an unknown moment, and we are drawing closer to it. We must persevere until the decisive blow.

In the weeks before the war broke out, voices were heard very similar to those we are hearing today, voices meant to sow doubt and diminish morale. What was said then applies just as well now: The US behaves like an empire. In World War II, it entered the war gradually, after it had accumulated enough strength and exhausted diplomatic moves. Roosevelt then faced, just as Trump does today, an isolationist camp that did not want to save Europe from Hitler and thought the evil would not reach it. Now too, in the midst of war, the US is acting patiently and resolutely because, as a superpower, it has time. Coordination with Israel is excellent, thanks in large part to the direct connection between Trump and Netanyahu and the trust between them. The plans included from the outset the various responses of the Iranian regime, including the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump is recruiting additional countries to the war effort. The exposure of missiles with a range of more than 4,000 kilometers (2,485 miles) may perhaps open Europeans' eyes in the face of the direct threat to them.

Ultimately, the US will have to deploy some forces on the ground, certainly for the seizure of strategic locations, for example Kharg Island, which is vital to Iran's oil economy. Government institutions continue to be hit, along with the weapons industry and the industries supporting it, missile launchers, most of which have already been destroyed, and of course the senior figures of this evil regime.

Their replacements are coming from the back ranks of the leadership and do not have the experience required to manage such a complex campaign. The chase after the uranium is also in full swing. Let us hope for good news.

It appears that, from the US perspective, there is no way back to the previous situation. Remember Trump's warning to the Iranian regime not to harm its citizens? If the war ends and the regime is still standing, it could carry out a mass slaughter of its citizens, greater than the one in January. That must not be allowed. Iran has revealed itself, in full, as a danger to world peace. That is why it is hard to see Trump leaving the region before what will be understood as Iran's total surrender. Let us pray for such a success.

The familiar voices of despair in our midst are few, even if they are loud. There is no need to plead with those who shrink from sacrifice. Some of these voices are not truly despairing, but are trying to sow doubt among the public for partisan reasons, heaven forbid that the public should feel gratitude toward the country's leaders and those at its helm. Natan Alterman foresaw these voices of weakness immediately after the great victory in the Six-Day War. "Then Satan said: This besieged one, how shall I overcome him? He has courage and resourcefulness and implements of war and sound counsel." The besieged one, of course, is the Jewish people in its state. How can we be defeated? "Only this will I do: I will dull his mind, and he will forget that justice is with him."

Rest in peace, Natan. We are indeed running to shelters and safe rooms, but we are enduring it, thank God. Our spirit is strong, and the healthy majority understands the magnitude of the historic task resting on all our shoulders for generations to come. As Yosef Etali, a man of Jerusalem's Jewish Quarter, told his son Amichai: "These are messianic birth pangs, deluxe edition."
