Israeli tanks destroyed a Hamas observation post in the Gaza Strip on Saturday after another roadside bomb exploded near the Israel-Gaza border.
The explosion occurred near the northern part of the fence, not far from the Israeli community of Kibbutz Nahal Oz.
While no Israeli troops were in the area at the time of the explosion and it caused no injuries, the IDF said the incident shows a clear pattern in which Gaza terrorists are targeting Israeli soldiers who regularly patrol the border fence area.
Palestinian media reported that one man was wounded in the Israeli shelling.
Saturday's explosion was the fourth to occur near the border in the past month.
Four Israeli soldiers were wounded, two of them seriously, when an explosive device planted near the border went off during a Palestinian protest near the fence in February. A second incident took place two weeks ago and the third occurred last Thursday, causing no injuries.
The IDF said the increasingly frequent border blasts have prompted a change in procedures to protect the troops more effectively.
Hamas, which controls Gaza, has relayed messages to the Israeli defense establishment saying it was not responsible for the border incidents.
A defense official told Israel Hayom the denial is credible, as Hamas has no interest in provoking a security escalation at this time.
Defense officials believe one of the smaller terrorist groups in Gaza, most likely the Popular Resistance Committees, is behind the recent rise in border incidents.
