High school student Shuva Malka, who was seriously wounded in a terrorist stabbing in the northern city of Afula last week, has turned the corner and is now in moderate medical condition.
"Thank the Lord, who performed a great miracle," Malka said Sunday from her bed in Afula's Ha'emek Medical Center.
Malka was on her way to take her civics matriculation exam when she was stabbed in broad daylight. She was taken to hospital with nine wounds to her upper body.
Her attacker, a resident of the West Bank city of Jenin, tried to flee but was shot in the leg by security forces. He was still in possession of the knife he had used to stab the teenager. The Shin Bet confirmed that the incident was a terrorist attack, not a criminal one.
"It's not to be taken for granted that I'm alive, that I'm strong, thank God. I thank the security forces. We're not angry. We're sure that they are doing everything they can," Malka said.
Malka has been moved out of intensive care and Professor Doron Kopelman, head of surgery at Ha'emek Medical Center, said her condition is continuing to improve.
"She needs to recover from a very severe, critical wound. Happily, she is getting stronger and I hope that she'll soon be able to get back to her routine," Kopelman said.
