Israeli security forces shot and killed a Palestinian man who stabbed an IDF soldier in Hebron, the military said Monday.
The soldier sustained minor wounds and was treated on site before being taken to a nearby hospital, the military said.
In a statement, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said that the incident took place near the Cave of the Patriarchs, when a Palestinian man lunged at one of the soldiers standing guard at a checkpoint near the holy site, stabbing him in the upper torso with scissors.
Troops at the checkpoint engaged the assailant, shooting and killing him.
The Cave of the Patriarchs pilgrimage site is a frequent flashpoint, as both Palestinians and Israelis regularly pass through the area.
