A terrorist who stabbed a soldier and hit him with a large rock after infiltrating an IDF position near the Jewish settlement of Beit El on Friday morning turned himself in to Israeli security forces on Saturday.
The terrorist, who was wounded in the struggle with the soldier, fled the scene after the attack.
The soldier, from the Nahal Brigade's ultra-Orthodox Netzah Yehuda combat battalion, sustained serious injuries in the attack and was treated at the scene before being rushed to Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem for further treatment.
The IDF has launched an investigation to determine how the terrorist was able to infiltrate the area without being detected. Investigators are waiting for the wounded soldier to recover somewhat before questioning him.
According to the army's initial assessments, the terrorist was a lone-wolf attacker without ties to a broader terrorist network.
The incident was the latest in a recent spate of terrorist attacks in Judea and Samaria.
On Thursday, two soldiers, Kfir Infantry Brigade Sgt. Yosef Cohen, 19, and Staff. Sgt. Yovel Mor Yosef, 20, were shot dead near the Givat Asaf outpost in the Binyamin region. A third soldier was critically wounded in the attack and a civilian, Shira Sabag, 20, was seriously injured as well.
The attack occurred four days after terrorists fired into a crowd at a hitchhiking post outside the settlement of Ofra, not far from the Givat Asaf attack. Seven people were wounded in the attack, including pregnant Shira Ish-Ran, whose baby was delivered in an emergency cesarean section following the shooting. The baby died three days later.
