New Right chairman Naftali Bennett has been approached with an offer to become Israel's next ambassador to the United Nations, the Knesset Channel reported on Sunday.
Sources in the Prime Minister's Office confirmed the offer was made, noting that Israel's current ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, is slated to end his mission by the end of the year.

The proposal reportedly stressed that Bennett could be named as Israel's envoy to the UN in return for giving up his participation in the upcoming elections, set for Sept. 17.
A statement by the New Right said, "The New Right movement headed by Naftali Bennett introduces a unique vision of a true, value-based and liberal Right, and of Israeli Judaism that is free of coercion. The party will vie in the elections with the aim of becoming a great force in the next government. Any other offer is irrelevant."
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan is also said to be eyeing the UN position.
