German parties laud EU's latest anti-Israel ruling

The Third Way and Green Party welcome European Court of Justice's order to bloc's 28 members to label Israeli goods produced beyond the Green Line. Neither party has ever endorsed similar labeling against any country involved in over 200 territorial disputes worldwide.

Parties in Germany praised a recent ruling by the European Union's top court saying that Israeli goods produced beyond the Green Line must be labeled.

The European Court of Justice last week ordered the bloc's 28 member-states to label Israeli goods made in Judea and Samaria settlements, saying that EU countries must identify products made in Israeli settlements on their labels, as those must provide an "indication of that provenance" so that consumers can make "informed choices" when they shop.

The ECJ is the highest court of the European Union in matters of Union law. Its rulings are binding and cannot be appealed.

According to a report in the Jerusalem Post, Germany's far-right party The Third Way and the Green Party welcomed the ruling.

A statement on The Third Way's website said that the party "has been calling for years to boycott all products from the terrorist state of Israel."

A graphic on the website states: "Boycott products from Israel: 729=Made in Israel," referring to the identification bar code placed on Israeli products in the EU.

The report further noted that lawmakers from Germany's Green Party have long sought to label Jewish goods produced in Judea and Samaria, Golan Heights and east Jerusalem.

The ECJ "has judged that products from Israeli settlements in the West Bank + the occupied territories in the #EU must be clearly declared. No more! But not less. For me, it is the right of #consumers to make an informed choice. #Righttoknow," Green Party MP Renate Kunast tweeted after the ECJ's ruling.

None of Germany's far-right and neo-Nazi parties have ever advocated for similar labeling measures against any country involved in the more than 200 territorial disputes worldwide.
