The Israeli government is "doing really stupid things" in its current efforts to curb the coronavirus crisis, Yamina lawmaker Naftali Bennett told i24NEWS.
Bennett was the defense minister from late 2019 until May 2020, supervising the Israeli military's efforts against the virus throughout its first outbreak.

"Generally speaking, we are at war against the corona," Bennett said, adding that under normal circumstances, he would want the government to be free to fight a war how it sees fit.
However, he said, a string of government missteps, including going "berserk" on restaurants, made him change his mind: "They do need some common sense supervision from the Knesset [Israel Parliament]."
He also lambasted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for putting politics "before the good of the people" and offered his own vision on how to approach the crisis.

What Israel needs right now, Bennett said, is not to impose any new restrictions, but to streamline testing, contact tracing and coronavirus self-isolation methods.
Bennett rejected a call for Benjamin Netanyahu to resign coming from opposition chief Yair Lapid, saying that "you don't topple governments in the middle of a war."
