Tisha B'Av, the day on which Jews mourn the destruction of the two biblical temples, was marked across Israel on Wednesday evening and throughout Thursday under strict social distancing directives imposed over the coronavirus outbreak.
The traditional prayer service at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, which usually draws thousands, was held in intervals, with police allowing only a few hundred people into the holy site's expansive plaza at a time.

Only 1,000 worshippers were allowed to attend the main Tisha B'Av services held at the Western Wall, the only relic of the Second Temple, on Wednesday evening.
Overnight, only small groups were allowed to pray on the premises.
Police and paramedics were slated to stay just outside the prayer plaza throughout Thursday, in the event anyone suffering from side effects over the Tisha B'Av fast is in need of assistance.
