A total of 625 new coronavirus cases were identified in Israel in the 24-hour period from midnight Friday to midnight Saturday, the Corona National Information and Knowledge Center reported Sunday morning.

In that same period, 7,736 tests were conducted, and 8.4% came back positive.

Six more COVID patients died over the weekend, bringing Israel's total death toll from the virus to 527.

There were 26,127 active or symptomatic cases nationwide, of whom 328 were hospitalized in serious condition. That number included 96 patients on ventilators.

A total of 45,098 Israelis have recovered from coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has ordered special measures after a COVID outbreak was reported at the King Solomon retirement home in Bnei Brak after a caregiver who works at the facility contracted the virus.

Asymptomatic residents will remain in the retirement home and assisted living facilities, and residents will be tested every four days in an attempt to curb the outbreak.

In addition, Jerusalem Affairs Minister Rafi Peretz has tested positive for coronavirus. Last week, the director general of the ministry turned out to be a carrier, and on Friday Peretz also tested positive.

"When Shabbat was over, I unfortunately learned that the coronavirus test I did on Friday turned out positive," Peretz said in a tweet.

Peretz' fellow cabinet member, Economy Minister Eli Cohen, and MKs Avi Dichter and Osnat mark, were also in quarantine after having met with a confirmed carrier. Two of Mark's parliamentary aides and one of Dichter's aides were also ordered to quarantine themselves.

Commander of the Jerusalem District in the Israel Police, Maj. Gen. Doron Yadid met with Peretz last week, and he was also quarantined.
