The Health Ministry said on Tuesday that 774 new coronavirus cases were diagnosed on Monday, further reflecting a slight upward trend.

The figures were released as the Israel Prison Service reported an outbreak of the virus at the Gilboa Prison. According to the IPS, 65 inmates were infected, but the majority remain asymptomatic.

On Monday, the IDF coronavirus task force warned Monday that the recent rise in new COVID-19 infections could indicate that the downward trend seen in the spread of the virus has come to a halt.

The positivity rate reached 3.1%, the ministry said, compared to 2.9% of tests returned on Saturday, 2.1% of tests from Friday, and 1.8% of tests from Thursday.

"This probably indicates that the downward morbidity trend is slowing down or potentially coming to halt," the task force warned, noting that there was still a decline in the number of fatalities and patients in serious condition compared to last week.

Former coronavirus commissioner Professor Ronni Gamzu has warned that testing levels need to be at least 30,000 per day for officials to have a good overview of the situation.

Health Ministry data showed that currently, the most infected city in Israel is Jerusalem with 1,480 active patients, followed by Tel Aviv with 409 and Bnei Brak with 347.
