Israel is bracing for a potential policy change in the US by which the Biden administration will either re-enter the nuclear deal with Iran, which US President Trump exited in 2018, or try to formulate a new pact meant to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
Sources familiar with the subject told Israel Hayom that while at this stage the government will not disclose precisely what Israel's demands will be in the context of such a move, the Jewish state is expected to insist on a significant extension of the deal's so-called sunset clause, suspending Iran's missile program, and setting provisions preventing Iran from procuring fissile material essential for a nuclear weapon.

Israel is also expected to demand that any such deal would mandate Iran ceases its regional aggression as well as its support for terrorism. These aspects were poorly addressed in the 2015 nuclear agreement, devised by the Obama administration.
Political sources stressed that preparations for the resumption of talks between Iran and world powers have already been made since both President Trump and President-elect Joe Biden indicated during their election campaigns that they intend to resume talks with Iran in order to create an amended nuclear deal.
